A weekend of OT and double booked evening plans made me a mildly stressed out girl but it worked out well enough.
Things could be worse right? I could be without a job or maybe just learned I didn't pass the bar so lucky me and not so lucky for my other friends but I digress.
4 hours at the office and then errands with Renee and Miz Beyonce buying our Thanksgiving essentials. Meat for the prime rib and pie fixins and various stuff for the sides. We even packed up our groceries in reusable bags yay on being a lil green.
So Renee chose to to skip Jamie's frat/b-day party and I went off to meet my peeps at the Tiki-ti for drinks. Richard, Juan, Andy, Jen, and Jose were already there and a couple of drinks in. Have you been here? Its cozy lil spot in hipsterland with like 90 different drinks with rum and a kitschy and cool atmosphere. I couldn't decide on what to drink so I spun the wheel, yeah they actually have a wheel with drink names and I spun it and got a drink called "cobra's fang." I know its awesome. The drink was pretty good too, it had a bite but it was tasty. We chatted about the goings ons and how Richard and Juan are gonna re-take the Bar in February. Sorrows were not drowned, lightly drenched in a good way. You couldn't be sad when Tiki-ti was playing an uber rad soundtrack, the best of Hall and Oates! Blue-eyed soul!
It became pretty obvious that Andy was three sheets to the wind after a drink called the Stealth. We had to get some food in him so we walked a few blocks down to Good Microbrew for vittles and brewskies. Music at Good was good. Food at Good was good. Beers at Good were good too. So yeah Adjectives at this place are pretty limited but its all to the Good. (oooh bad pun intended). I had 2 beers, one that tasted like grass and the other was dare I say it... good. And I ordered the pot roast which was not bad.
After eating we all went over to Andy's for more booze and Singstar! Booze from Juan's fridge and Andy's Singstar 80s and 90s and Queen for PS3. Everybody took their turn on the mike and without Vanessa there no one sang Abba. Andy proved he was the King of Roxette! Seriously he's a singing machine. He and Richard totally did the damn thing in a Singstar deathmatch! And me and Jen did a passable rendition of the monster ballad, I Wanna Know What Love Is. We re-discovered that Richard has a black person inside him cause he did a totally awesome turn PeaboTonight I Celebrate my Love for You and Aretha in I Say a Little Prayer For You. And I also found out that the European version of Singstar has Morrissey... a pox on copyright laws! But yeah suddenly it was 230 and it was time to call it a night. Juan and Jose left without saying goodbye... those darn rummies. Hopefully we can hang out again. A big get together with the entire BBC this holiday season would be legendary
Mobile blog attempt #1
So Tak and I just finished playing on www.Dubplate.FM. I'll be honest and reveal that I was super nervous and energy-filled right before we went on the air. And of course I messed up a bunch of times, but nothing too drastic. No train-wrecking or whatever. I am chucking to myself because I have so much to learn, ya know?
Still in my PJs on Saturday morning: that's what's up! Last night I had a fun time hanging out with 7 girlfriends that I've known for 10 yrs+. I have a Mimosa headache this morning but it was totally worth it!! So now I can reveal what the big news is: We have a brand new show on a brand new station, the www.Dubstep.FM fam, and we couldn't be happier!! We are preparing the first show now and hope to have a real doozy for you. Stay tuned for more info in the next week.
Wow. Talk about a big show for the underground bass lovers in Los Angeles, especially for dubstep. Drew from the Smog crew has spearheaded a dubstep movement that seems to keep growing and growing in Los Angeles. I started going to the SMOG parties a year and a half ago and I've gradually become acquainted with Drew, DJ's Pawn, Steady, Emu and lovely Miss Blaze, and they are a stand-up group of people that have a strong love affair with the music. What a great night for the SMOG crew!
