oh sweet weekend
so i'm suffering from the ugliest prickly heat rash right now. it's on the right side of my neck. it's seriously killing me. i was a victim of the indio heat.
thankfully my palm has a memo function and i was able to "blog" a lil bit. granted my notes are in shorthand, i'll expand as i go along
Coachella Friday:
flostradamus & kid sister

brother ali
satellite party - perry farrel's latest band
silversun pickups - naptime...hit the wall

amy winehouse - so dope..that thing u do mix/valerie/back2black...made my night...now i'm lazy and just want to chill
stephen/damien marley - need to brush up on my ska...hit up gary for a jamaica mix

indian food with gary...chicken tikka naanwich
run to toilets that flush
catch bits and pieces of interpol
interpol...radical...
it feels lik eeveryone is leaving...guess folks don't wanna see bjork or dj shadow?
i was wrong there are a shit load of people here for bjork. she's so cool, but sleepy. so it's off to sit and wait for shadow. the mister would be so mad if imissed shadow!
sausagefest of course
shadaw was dope. recorded most of it on my phone and camera. so insane. i knew all those songs bc of mike.
as much as i know i'm having fun. i wish mike, ivy, and renee were here to share this with me.
while interpol was on i barely paid attn because a mom and her toddler daughter were playing the whole time. everytime people passed by they all had the same reaction..you're a cool mom! ur kids ar eadorable, etc. when i'm a grown up i only hope to be as cool as this coachella mom.
friday highlights: amy winehouse and dj shadow. amy winehouse killed it. she was sober...or at least sober enough to perform without slurring. her voice is freakin amazing. i do have issues with her touring with the dap kings...but it isn't like the dap kings are solely with sharon jones. but it feels like marketing and politics are playing themselves out with the success of amy winehouse. it isn't like a c & c music factory situation, amy winehouse has got the skills. you can't deny the talent that comes out of this little jewish british girl with her beehive weave. dj shadow started out with technical difficulty. he was amazing live. the bf was shocked when i said those words. he was seriously dope though. he played stuff off the new one, which i saw some people not feeling, but those folks need to chill out. they need to just get hyphy. no appearance from keak, just him on video. shadow played organ donor, and six days, and nearly everything else that mike plays. it was seriously so good. i'm glad i ended friday with shadow.

DECEMBERISTS - headed to the decemberists with pasa peeps dave and tymmy. it was kinda weird hanging out with them since we're not really tight.
GFK - am waiting for ghostface. i totally forgot about !!! gary's comin from there
gfk was hot but did the same set that he did from usc...so it's off to arcade fire
ARCADE FIRE - they're dope too. left arcade fire to catch justice or girl talk
justice vs. girl talk. gary chooses justice
i'm currently enjoying the magic of girl talk
GIRL TALK - OH SHIT insanity. Aziz from comedians of comedy was 3 ft away from me. p.hilton was on stage.
90s with jt/rick ross/missy/timbaland/slim thug/rock/humpty dance/nirvana/daft punk/and more soooooooooooo fuckin dope. girlk talk killed it for me.
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - had a churro..drinking h2o. dehydrated + low blood sugard.
chillin. the peppers are kickin ass. good mix of old and new stuff. really more new.
GOTAN PROJECT - pit stop...actually HAVE heard of them b4 from cw steve
THE RAPTURE - last stop..OMG rapture blew my mind away. i danced for the entire set.
i was pulling out freestyle moves! that's how crazy it was. they have an amazing set. there shti live is spectacular. it's a muthafuckin dance party.
THE GOOD THE BAD THE QUEEN - chill. got seats on the bleachers. they're cool, but i'm glad i wne tto the reapture. gbq would've put me to sleep. they've got an orchestra backing them!
TIESTO - soooooo euro
saturday highlights: the music sounded amazing and if it wasn't for those brownies the trek to get to the entrance would've been a major bitch. instead of complainin i was chillin the whole time. girl talk and the rapture made my saturday night. i couldn't believe how insane girl talk was. he mixes 90s classics with hiphop...and it's the hip hop i love. slim thug???? rick ross?? humpty dance??? daft punk??? oh sweet jebus it was insanity. i loved this set. it was seriously an eargasm mix. the dude looks like an east coast hipster. i could've transplated that dude in silver lake. i think i saw him walking around the next day...straight dork. my 2nd favorite act was the rapture. HOLY SHIT...it was a fuckin dance party. i seriously danced for the whole 45 minutes. they are afreakinmazing live. i was so blown away by their set. many thanks to teh mister for getting me girl talk and the rapture from amoeba.
Coachella Sunday:
woke up at around 11
ate eggs with chicken hot dogs
pop tarts
smoked cigs and did homework while folks were at the pool
talked shit about teh douchebags who stayed with us
seriously such jerks
parked in the "quick exit" lot for 10bux
walked a bit and just got in
RODRIGO Y GABRIELA - so far so good. chilllin on the side in teh shade with frozen lemonade and a cig.
they're way chill, but they hella rock out on the acoustic guitar. it's pretty sick
CSS - GAROSS stupid bo...but i'm still gonna wait but possibly move.
i moved thank god.
css was amazing. they rocked out
full out dance party.
they did a daft punk cover but i dont know the song title
boo on me.
they did the paris hilton song since they talked about how they met her backstage.
they did the artist song that mike always plays and mad love the song with the crazy video.
i'm chillin here til lily allen
so i'll see the klaxons. i'm gonna try and move up front for lily allen.
chicken strips and fries for dinner. delish.
cut chemist - pit stop...weird seeing him at a festival. he's playing stuff from the audience is listening. nonetheless its quite fun...of course all dudes
LILY ALLEN - omg shes' amazing.
i took a bazillion pics of her.
i got video of her covering blondies heart of glass.
she started all dancehall with the buck shots and then it got ska magical.
so freakin sweet
she didn't think so many people would show up for her set.
the tent was packed. i love her
she's so adorable
MANU CHAO - i rushed over to main stage to find a spot.
i'm pretty far out with the other sitters.
i just wanna chill out for rage.
there's now way i'd ever be in the pit.
i'm too chicken. his set was good. very viva mexico. i wonder what the aholes in the pit were thinkin
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - unfreakinbelievable.
sunday highlights: css kicked so much ass. i love that band. the lead singer was wearing a freakin catsuit. how rad is that. i was a lil bit bummed. i think teh mister would've enjoyed css. lily allen made my night. i guess i was all about british singers that weekend. i can't get over how she infuses ska into her sound. her cover of blondie's heart of glass was off the chain. if i had the moola i'd watch her again. unfortunately coachella has taken all my money. and the super highlight of the day - rage.
so this isn't the first time i've seen rage. i staffed the first coachella that rage performed at. the problem is..i have no recollection or memory of that performance. why? because that first coachella was the worst experience of my life. they didn't feed the staff. they didn't give the staff water. i was dehydrated and exhausted by the time rage came on. what i do recall is getting yelled at by perry farrel, showing dj shadow and razhel their trailer, chit chatting with moby, and seeing this craft services guy joke with zach de la rocha. apparently they were friends and i heard the craft services guy say to zach, "aren't you the guy from the counting crows?!" it's all one big haze because i had probably one bottle of water for two days in september in the middle of the muthafuckin desert. september in the desert = 120degrees. it's god awful.
so seeing rage on sunday made up for that horrible experience. they were stellar. i could not believe i was seeing this band perform. there are no words that i can say that will make up for the experience. it was seriously unfreakinbelievable. i am seriously contemplating going to rock the bells. i absolutely hate the orange show...but seeing rage perform again with the possibility of collaborating with public enemy. omg it's like extreme eargasm.
pics coming soon...these are all the words i have for now
