after graduation and purchasing planet earth at fry's fountain valley, the mister and i hung out at home and rested for the long night ahead. too bad we didn't actually eat anything. we may have been out longer had we had a meal. but ehh perhaps it was a good thing.
star shoes was crowded at 10. complete with random folks who had never been there. the djs didn't show up til 11ish. it felt so strange-o to be there so early. next week i plan on showing up at my usual 1145/12. i cannot hang with this heading out to a spot early business.
oh dj's...why am i such a sucker for a fella who spins records...
the man of the evening
and one last appearance from a capless bucket cap. teh mister was annoyed that i was taking pictures of this dude. he is fun times man.
so me and teh mister were 4 for 7. twas a good run. i am happy i don't have to do this again. lol.
i didn't end up taking that many pics at star shoes since i was too busy dancing up a storm. i know i was icky and sweaty. totally gaross, but totally happy with the music. the fact that i had a stella and a couple of red bull & grey goose bevies helped keep my spirits up through the night.
we left around 1ish. it was way too crowded to stay for the whole thing. twas a good decision because the streets weren't packed with drunk drivers and there was no line at del taco. faboo.
so fresh
i am thoroughly exhausted from this weeks activities. i'm not even done yet. on the agenda today is dee's graduation from uci. i think this may be the last graduation i go to for a friend from undergrad. insanity.
my body is just seriously wrecked. after firecracker we headed to fred 62 for sustenance. luckily we left early enough where fred's wasn't a madhouse. as we sat at our table i could feel my eyelids getting heavier. i struggled to stay up by playing solitaire and sudoku...it didn't help. drinking soda pop didn't help either. eventually we finished our meal and then got home and then went to bed.
mike hit the obey sale earlier yesterday and the folks at firecracker seemed to have done the same. radical people watching ensued.
i didn't cop that many pictures. last night. i was too busy shaking my ass off and getting sweaty. yeah the air-conditioning never works there. c'est la vie. it is as it is.
here's the flickr. here's the highlights.
bucket cap photog was in effect. although there was no bucket cap! i was rather disappointed. i wanted him to have a different one at every show.
spinning records.the crowd watching.the crowd dancing. i was one with the crowd. ignoring the cramped quarters and cutting my own rug.
the verdict? again radical. we got there hella early. really early for firecracker...10pm. i've never been there so goddamn early. there were no regulars. no familiar faces. which did make the people watching especially satisfying.
there was a hipster couple who was hilarious that night. one moment making out. the next moment fighting. the chick was all up in my grill when we were dancing. i was whatever with it since i realize that there's no fuckin space. the music is rad. the people will dance. fuck personal space. just enjoy the music. this has been my mantra for the past couple days.
also finally finishing my book eat.pray.love has given me a zen like mindset. i'm trying not to let the lil things bug. but you know, even if tho i'm trying to have the lil things not bug me i can still laugh at the ridiculous nature of the lil things right? i think no matter how many spiritual zen books i read i still will have to laugh at all the ridiculous things in this world. life's too short!
that was very oprah of me. blehhhhhhhhhhhh
so fresh
last night was root down for the 80s hip hop set of peanutbutterwolf's 7 nights/7 genres tour.
we left the apartment around 10. we got in line at 1030. at 1145 just as we hit the velvet rope the bouncer proclaims he's at capcacity and he's not letting anyone in. i hang out. i figure if i waited an hour to get in and i'm finally at the velvet rope that it would be only a matter of time.
so i patiently waited. smiled. made small talk. people watched galore. and at 1215 we got in.
at first we were in the back of the room, but i figured why not try moving towards the front. so we walked through the empty other room towards the bathrooms and found a spot basically 3 feet way from the stage. peanutbutterwolf had already started his set but i don't think i missed much. i got 45 minutes of the dopest 80s hip hop set. every song was a keeper. from public enemy to n.w.a to freaking we make the cars the cars that go boom. i was seriously in heavy bass/80s/hip hop heaven.
and now for the peektures.
new bucket cap but more sweaty shirt actioin. do your thing man do your thing.
so jealous. he spun 45s all night.
the crowds reaction to fight the power
wildchild & med
i tried to get teh mister to rep the 805, but some dudes next to us started shouting "OXNARD" however i'm suspiciously suspect of these dudes because its been my experience that random white dudes don't claim the ox unless it's nardcore??? i have a sneaking suspicion dude was from ventura...teh misterly was thoroughly irked.
cutting a rug/feelin the music/can you hear me?
the verdict? twas amazing. i heart 80s hip hop. it made my night.
now i must try and find my battery charger for my powershot...this is the 2nd one i've misplaced!
